A big fight between Swiss and Finland

Daniel Hubmann and Simone Niggli confirmed their first position in the World Prix Orienteering 2010 in Castellaneta.

Small streets and houses near canyons were the location of the race in the historical centre of Castellaneta, Taranto.

A very technical historical centre that created serious difficulties to the Nordic athletes not habit to run in the cities.

The competition sponsorized by the major Italo D’ Alessandro and the two counsellors of the city: Alfredo Cellamare and Corigliano Giuseppe, satisfied all the participants.

The competition started in the late afternoon, at 16.30.

The winners of the competition were Simone Niggli and Daniel Hubmann, both from Switzerland and both world champions. Only one minute after arrived the Finnish Minna Kauppi (already 5 times world champion) and Olli-Markus Taivainen (world champion junior 2009).

In few words the main challenge was between the Swiss and Finnish team, In these days busy with their trainings in the wide pine wood in Taranto. The competition was dedicated to Rodolfo Valentino, the famous latin lover and silent cinema dive.

The international delegations, in the end of the competition, were invited to visit Rodolfo Valentino’ museum and after, they celebrated with a welcome buffet (typical food from south of Italy) in the official Major house.

A big delegation of students from the high school Perrone of Castellaneta participated to the competition, leaded by the teacher Gabriella Mastrobuono and Mimmo Bari.

The international meeting of Gran Pric Orienteering MOC 2010 will end in the village of Monopoli, near Bari, on the 6 of March, together with the school final championship of orienteering. We are waiting 20 schools with almost 400 students.
